What is a snail mail club, and why I started one

A snail mail club is a subscription where, instead of receiving digital content or a typical unboxing product, you receive real, physical mail, a letter, art, or small treasures sent to your actual letterbox on a regular basis, usually once a month. It's a slower, more intentional alternative to the endless scroll of social media and email newsletters: something tangible you can hold, rather than another notification.

Mine is called The Stamped Letter, and it's my take on a monthly snail mail subscription, based here in Hawke's Bay, New Zealand.

Why I started a snail mail club

As a kid, I used to collect stamps, I loved studying all the tiny details, the colours, the little worlds packed into something so small. That love of real, physical mail never really left me, even as everything else in life moved online.

At the same time, I found myself wanting to connect with the people who love my art in a way that felt more personal than just another online shop. Digital feels instant, but it rarely feels intentional. I wanted to create something people had to wait for. Something that arrived slowly, thoughtfully, and with a bit of care behind it.

That's how The Stamped Letter came to be: a monthly envelope containing a handwritten letter from me, an exclusive illustrated art print, a collectible sticker, and a little bonus extra that changes each month.

What's inside a typical edition

Each month's Stamped Letter includes:

  • A personal letter, sharing the story and inspiration behind that month's theme
  • An exclusive art print, illustrated to accompany the letter
  • A collectible sticker
  • A bonus extra that varies each month, things like an affirmation bookmark, a seasonal recipe card, or similar small treasures

Why people are rediscovering snail mail

There's something genuinely different about opening a real envelope compared to opening an app. No notifications, no algorithm, just ink, paper, and a little bit of magic, arriving at your own pace rather than instantly. For a lot of subscribers, that slower rhythm has become the whole appeal: a small, monthly ritual of slowing down.
